It will take some more research on your part, but years ago I recall people using a short dip in an alum solution for just the problem you describe. Unfortunately I don't recall the strength of the solution except that it was relatively mild and the plants were left to soak for about 4 hours. Perhaps one of the more plant oriented web sites can help. Of course careful rinsing was the final step in the process. Good luck,I hope you can find more information.
